WHY OOJI?

The concept of OOji baby was built over time but the brand name was born after one ‘meeting’ with my 3 children who desperately wanted to be involved. We wanted a name which sounded cute yet bold, had no gender bias and was ideally a single short memorable word. They were very creative and made the decision very hard! We loved that ‘OOji’ not only had no historic meaning and therefore created no preconceptions about the brand but we particularly loved how the letters sat so snuggly into each other, just like a parent and child. We designed our logo with this in mind - you will see the ‘J’ carries the ‘O’.

WHO SAID PINK IS FOR GIRLS AND BLUE IS FOR BOYS?

When I became a mother for the first time (I have 3) I hated the sea of pink and blue in most high street & online baby wear shops - I would avoid what these colours represented like the plague. I always wanted more colour choice and clothing that wasn’t so gender specific - it wasn’t easy!

Wouldn’t it be nice if our children no longer associated a particular colour to one gender but celebrated all colours equally. How many times have you heard little boys and girls say they won’t wear something or play with a toy because it’s the ‘wrong’ colour or gender! We’ve conditioned the minds of our young to see colour by gender and this extends into other areas of their lives as they grow. Gender neutral clothing is a simple yet effective step in changing the colour perception that has been following us for decades and it should start when our children are babies.

We realise the importance of comfortable & practical baby items with a wider range of colour options. We guarantee exceptional quality on all our products, better than many established high street and online retailers. We try to keep it 100% cotton and organic cotton all the way. We celebrate muslin for its multi uses and an absolute essential for all new parents by making the most gorgeous 4 & 6 layer blankets. We continue to work on reducing our use of plastics with suppliers and we never include any plastic in orders as they make their journey to our new parents. Our boxes are made using 100% recycled paper and are intended for re-use but are recyclable. The tissue in our boxes is PH neutral and acid free. We work hard to make everything we offer gender neutral but still cute. We don’t want you to think about gender when buying, we just want you to love it and when it arrives beautifully boxed - well that’s a bonus!
